What is the weather like in Playas del Coco?

Costa Rica has two seasons – the green season that occurs between May and November and the dry season that lasts from December to April. The green season is characterized by sunny mornings and rain showers in the afternoons or evenings. The dry season tends to last several weeks longer in the Guanacaste region where Playas del Coco is located. Playas del Coco is warm year round.
What should we pack?
Pack light and casual. Most of the restaurants are all very casual and usually open air. You may need a light sweater or jacket for evenings in the green season. Make sure to bring your bathing suit and dive gear if you are planning to scuba dive. All of the dive shops have rental gear if you’d prefer to leave yours at home. Insect repellent is a good idea as well.
Are there restaurants nearby?
Yes. There are lots of restaurants nearby. There is a great Italian restaurant, Le Dolce Vite that is at the entrance to the Mapache area. Other restaurants on main street in Coco are Coconutz, Lizard Lounge and Louisiana’s. Father Roosters in Octotal is also a great restaurant.
Is there a dive shop nearby?
Yes. There are several dive shops in Coco as well as in Ocotal.
What language is spoken in Costa Rica?
The official language is Spanish, although English is widely spoken and you will therefore not have any difficulties communicating.

What kind of money is used in Costa Rica?
The official currency is called Colon (Co-loan), although US dollars are also widely accepted. Credit cards are also accepted at most larger establishments, although they may add a small fee. There are ATM’s as well, but they are not as abundant as they are in Canada and the US. Travelers cheques are also not widely accepted.
Where is the closest grocery store (market)?
The Super Luperon is located in downtown Coco and has a wide variety of groceries, including good produce, toiletries, alcohol and miscellaneous items. It is less than a 5 minute drive from the condo.
Is the water safe to drink?
Yes. Costa Rica has similar practices and standards as those found in the US for ensuring that clean potable water is available to all its citizens and visitors.
What is the time zone?
Costa Rica is on Central Standard Time and daylight savings time is not observed.
What recreational activities are available in the area?
Your imagination is your limit! There is so much to do in the Playas del Coco area, you will only be bored if you plan it that way. Scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, surfing, fishing, eco tours (zip line canopy tours), rainforest and volcano trips and much more.
What is the electrical voltage?
110 volts, the same as in North America.
